Co-director Human Services

Mark Sandel is a Licensed Master Social Worker and Assistant
Professor at the University of North Texas where he has repeatedly
been recognized as a "Top Prof" for teaching excellence. He has
presented numerous professional training and conference workshops,
and has extensive experience in the domestic violence movement as a
program director, facilitator, trainer, social change advocate, and
educator. Mark was honored as NASW Social Worker of the Year for
Texas in 1994 and, in 1997, received a Dallas County District
Attorney's office special award for his work in domestic violence.

Co-director Human Services

Dawn Swepston, LPC, is the Program Director for Life Issues
Interventions & Training. She has a Masters Degree in Counseling
Psychology and practice experience with adult and juvenile
offenders. Her current work focuses on program design, development,
and implementation while exploring innovative training and education
approaches. She co-developed and directs several intervention
programs that have provided services to over 3000 North Texas
juvenile offenders and their families.

Phil Travers is a Licensed Professional Counselor
and Clinical Director at Family Violence Prevention
Services, Inc. Phil has counseling experiences in
the domestic violence, sexual assault, and sexual
identity fields. He earned his Master of Arts and
Educational Specialist Degrees in Community Counseling
from James Madison University in 1998. He is the
author of The Counselor's Helpdesk and Counseling the
Rainbow: Effectively Meeting the Needs of Gay and
Lesbian Clients. He is also provides expert witness
service in cases involving domestic violence and has
made numerous presentations.

Subject Matter Expert

A professor for the Graduate School of Social Work, University
of Texas, Arlington, for 25 years, Dr. Nazneen Mayadas has served as the Chief of
Social Services Section, Office of the United Nations High
Commissioner for Refugees in Geneva, Switzerland. Co-editor of
four books, Dr. Mayadas has published over 40 journal articles,
written several book reviews and presented at more than 100
conferences. Currently she chairs the NASW Book Committee,
co-edits the Social Development Issues, and is serving her third
term on the CSWE/ International Commission.
